Description: "Les Vaux" or the Etang du Moulin des Vaux, to give it it's full French name, is a superb stone built mill house that dates back to the 16th Century and is set in the lush green countryside on the borders between Brittany, Normandy and the Pays de la Loire. It is approximately 2 hours from the ferry port of Caen and 1½ hours from St. Malo. The very pretty private lake that lies next to the house dates back over 300 years and had never previously been used as a commercial fishery until it was purchased in 2002 by its English owners, Chas and Josie Cook, who have restored the lakeside house to a very high standard and stocked the lake with fish. The accommodation and venue has been specifically designed with the family in mind. Lake: The Lake is of approximately 3½ - 4 acres of open water with just over ¾ acre of marsh land at the top, where the Category 1 trout stream enters the venue. It varies in depth from 4.5 metres at the dam wall to 50 cms at the shallow top end. The average depth in the centre along the original river bed is around 2.7 to 3m, with margins averaging 1.4m to 1.7m. Stock: The lake was stocked in 2003 with around 280 carp... mirrors, commons and koi. The majority of carp now range from 20 to high 30’s, with the lake record currently standing at 47lb 10oz. Lake & Stock: The stock consists of mainly Mirror Carp through to 46 lb, Common Carp that go from doubles to 30 lb with 15 Grass Carp from 20lb to 46 lb, 2 Leather Carp over 20 lb, 4 Silver Carp, which go from 53 lb to 70 lb, 22 Koi Carp from 10 lb to 22 lb, 6 Sturgeon from 15 lb to 28 lb The Catfish go to just over 100 lb with 25 fish of which 12 are over 50 lb. Boats, there are two rowing boats on the lake for anglers to share. Camping facilities have been fitted in a barn on site in a recent renovation to an excellent standard. Facilities: There is a shower room, a separate toilet and washroom. A kitchen/diner with an electric cooker, microwave, fridge freezer and washing machine. There are two picnic tables by the lake for anglers to share. One between swims 1 and 2, the other between swims 5, 6 and 7. There is a small shop onsite where fishing baits and tackle can be

As far as we know it was never been fished for carp so it was virgin territory. The local villagers have told us of big carp cruising and splashing and we have now seen them too. (click on latest catch for update) Lake: 14 acres of lake surrounded by farmland and the village of Masseret Du Gare. The lake is pre Napoleonic which means we have an automatic legal right to 24 hr fishing. We have stocked the lake with carp of 20, 30, & 40+lbs this winter. (see latest catch for details). Following the lake being drained in Feb 2003 we have removed the large Zander and most importantly the posion chat (small American catfish). All we are left with now are a few small zander, pike and 260+ carp to 49lb and cats to 87lb.

Our Gite is a spacious restored stone farm cottage circa 18th C. complete with oak beams, restored fireplace and bread oven. Upstairs are 2 double bedrooms with en-suite wc and two twin bedrooms. The gite is only a cast away from two of the lakes and a short walk from the main 10 acre lake, all within a completely private estate. Non angling guests have been charmed by our animals including llamas and alpacas.
